Bentley Tests EV Concept That Mimics V8 Sound and Feel

Bentley has developed an electric vehicle concept called Torcal that aims to preserve elements of the driving experience associated with its traditional combustion engines, according to a report from The Verge.

The report notes that electric vehicles have become a natural fit for the luxury automotive segment due to their ability to deliver a smooth ride and quiet powertrain. Other luxury brands have already moved in this direction, with Rolls-Royce introducing the Spectre, Cadillac developing the bespoke Celestiq, and Mercedes applying its Maybach treatment to the EQS, The Verge said.

As part of Volkswagen Auto Group, Bentley is exploring how to adapt to electrification while maintaining what the report describes as its authentic character. The Torcal concept reportedly incorporates simulated V8 engine sounds, an approach intended to preserve some of the sensory experience traditionally associated with the brand's combustion-powered vehicles.

The Verge's report frames the project as an attempt by Bentley to balance the technical advantages of electric powertrains with the auditory and experiential qualities that have historically defined its vehicles.
