Thirteen students and researchers in Gaza have been unable to depart for Belgian universities after the country's government reached deadlock on an evacuation plan, according to reports. Ahmed Abujami, a 28-year-old doctor in Gaza, said he was "deeply disappointed" after Belgium's five-party coalition government last Friday failed to agree on the arrangement.
Abujami holds a scholarship for a one-year master's degree in public health at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, which he intended to use to gain skills to help rebuild Gaza's health system. The impasse leaves the scholarship recipients unable to depart the war-torn territory.
