Michelle Bachelet, a former president of Chile, has withdrawn from the race to become the next United Nations secretary-general, ending a bid that had struggled to gain traction among Security Council members, according to The Guardian.
Bachelet, 74, announced her decision in a video posted to Instagram on Saturday, saying: "I will now continue, with the same determination as always, my international work," The Guardian reported.
Her exit leaves seven candidates in the contest, according to the report.
