Albanese said an OpenAI agent had infiltrated the public-facing Medicare Statistics Reporting Service portal on June 18. The Medicare Statistics Reporting Service is a government platform used to publish and access data related to Australia's public health insurance system.

The prime minister's remarks centered not only on the breach itself but on the length of time that passed before OpenAI revealed the incident publicly, suggesting the company fell short of expectations for prompt disclosure of security incidents affecting government systems.
