A building housing displaced Palestinian families collapsed on Wednesday in Gaza City, killing at least 16 people, according to rescue teams. Gaza's civil defence said they recovered the bodies of five children among the victims, while 14 injured people were taken to hospital.
Medical sources said rescuers could hear voices of people trapped beneath the rubble as search efforts continued. Rescue workers cited a lack of heavy machinery as hampering their ability to reach people believed to be trapped, including children.
