Artist Taryn Simon opens largest-ever debut exhibition at the Guggenheim

Artist Taryn Simon is preparing to open her largest debut exhibition of new work, "Father Country I Do Love You," at the Guggenheim Museum, according to the Guardian. The show, opening in under three weeks, is the first monographic exhibition by a photography-based artist staged in the museum's spiral rotunda.

The exhibition delves into pockets of history, including within Simon's own family, the Guardian reported. As part of the installation, the museum's lobby is being transformed into a recreation of the Bangkok living room of Jim Thompson, a silk businessman and alleged spy who disappeared in 1967.

Simon's father, a US government worker who was living in Thailand at the time of Thompson's disappearance, and Simon herself recreated Thompson's wood-panelled den at their Long Island home when she was nine, according to the report.
