Two tankers were attacked by an unidentified party in the Strait of Hormuz, regional and Western sources said, as reports emerge of a Saudi plan to strike Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi fighters.
Regional and Western officials said Riyadh plans to carry out the operation in the coming weeks, with Yemeni forces leading the ground operation backed by Saudi air support.
The identity of the party behind the attack on the two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz — a strategic waterway that regularly sees tensions between regional powers — has not yet been established.
Neither the Saudi government nor the Houthi movement has issued any immediate official comment on these reports.
