Fighting intensified between Ethiopian federal forces and rebels from the Tigray region in the north of the country, before internet service was disrupted in parts of the north on Friday, according to Sky News Arabia.

The internet outage raised fears among residents of a repeat of the disruption scenario that affected communications and supplies during the previous war in Tigray.

The available report did not include additional details on the toll of the clashes or the specific areas that saw intensified fighting.

The previous war in the Tigray region, which broke out in 2020 before a peace agreement was reached in 2022, saw extended disruptions to communications and internet services in the region, in addition to a wide-ranging humanitarian crisis.

No official comment has been issued so far by the Ethiopian government or by representatives of the Tigray rebels regarding the recent fighting, according to the information available.
