Al-Shara: Golan is Syrian Land.. Pezeshkian Pledges Not to Bow to Washington

Meetings and speeches by world leaders on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, which began on Tuesday and will continue until September 28, continue in New York, with a striking focus on the Golan Heights files and US relations with Damascus and Tehran.

In this context, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa confirmed that the Golan Heights will remain Syrian territory, in statements that came on the sidelines of the UN meetings, without providing further details about the steps that Damascus intends to take regarding the Golan Heights, which Israel has occupied since 1967.

Iranian President Masoud Bezshakian vowed not to bow to external pressure, and criticized Washington, accusing it of "terrorism," in statements reflecting the continued tension between Tehran and the US administration.

There was no immediate comment from the U.S. side on the remarks of the Syrian and Iranian presidents, while observers await additional words from other leaders in the coming days of the General Assembly meetings.

These statements come in light of the General Assembly's preoccupation this year with multiple regional files, from the war in Ukraine to the situation in the Middle East, where world leaders continue to exchange political messages from the UN platform until the end of next week.
