Arm Holdings Chief Predicts AI Could Help Cure Cancer 'Within Our Lifetimes'

Rene Haas, chief executive of chip designer Arm Holdings, has said he believes artificial intelligence will be able to help find a cure for cancer "in our lifetime," according to a report by the Guardian.

Haas, who leads one of the UK's largest chip companies, said that modelling how a DNA marker is affected by cancer is currently "too complex" a problem for humans or existing technology to solve, but he expressed confidence that computers would eventually be able to address it, the Guardian reported.

The Arm chief also predicted that AI could pave the way for the widespread use of humanoid robots within the next five years, according to the same report.

The Guardian's report did not provide further detail on the specific technical basis for Haas's predictions or a timeline for when such breakthroughs might occur.

Arm Holdings, based in Cambridge, England, designs semiconductor chip architecture used in a wide range of electronic devices, including smartphones and, increasingly, AI-related hardware.
