Argentina's poverty rate rose to 32.3% in the first half of 2026, up from 28.2% in the previous six-month period, according to official data released Thursday.
The increase came as incomes lagged behind rising prices, squeezing household budgets across the country.
Extreme poverty also climbed during the period, rising to 7.5% from 6.3%, the data showed.
The impact was particularly pronounced among children, with 44.5% of those aged 14 and under classified as poor.
The figures come as President Javier Milei's government continues to pursue an economic program centered on austerity measures aimed at curbing inflation and reducing the fiscal deficit, an approach that has drawn both support and criticism over its social costs.
