Analyst Says US-Iran Conflict Has Become a Stalemate With No Clear Winner
Barbara Slavin, a Distinguished Fellow at the Simpson Center, tells France 24 that neither Washington nor Tehran can claim success in the current standoff, citing rising costs on both sides.

Barbara Slavin, a Distinguished Fellow at the Simpson Center, said the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran in the Persian Gulf has become a mutually damaging stalemate in which neither side has found a politically sustainable way out, according to an interview aired by France 24.
Speaking with host Mark Owen, Slavin said "there are no winners in this war," characterizing the standoff as a problem of face-saving as much as one of military strategy.
According to Slavin, the United States faces rising economic and electoral costs as the conflict continues, without offering further detail on specific figures or policy measures.
She said Iran, for its part, is confronting shortages, inflation, domestic dissent and intensified repression, according to her assessment relayed in the interview.
Slavin argued that neither government can credibly claim to have achieved its objectives in the confrontation, framing the situation as one where both sides face internal pressure to end hostilities without appearing to have lost.
The interview was published by France 24 as part of its coverage of the US-Iran conflict. France 24 did not attribute specific figures, dates or additional sourcing beyond Slavin's remarks in the segment.
