Russia held legislative elections over the weekend for the first time since the war in Ukraine began, a vote widely seen as lacking real stakes because the presidential party's victory is assured in the absence of credible opposition, according to France 24.

Marie Jégo, a Le Monde reporter and former Moscow correspondent, said on France 24's "Au Cœur de l'Info" that President Vladimir Putin wants to make the vote a symbol of public support for his war in Ukraine.

The elections took place as Moscow continues to wage what France 24 described as an active hybrid war against European countries.
