Amnesty International has accused Iranian authorities of committing crimes against humanity during the 2022 Woman, Life, Freedom crackdown, according to a report by the rights group. Amnesty says more than 500 people, including 71 children, were killed and that the violence disproportionately targeted Kurdish and Baluchi communities.
Amnesty is urging the UN General Assembly to create an international justice mechanism to investigate the killings, arguing that many of the officials it identified remain in positions of power.
