Seven people were killed and more than 40 wounded on Wednesday in Russian strikes targeting several regions of Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, local authorities said.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet determined the extent of the full damage caused by the strikes, while rescue operations continue and an accurate count of casualties in the affected areas.
Commenting on the attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed to target Russian energy facilities next winter, in remarks in which he described the upcoming season as a "painful winter" for Moscow.
Continuous escalation
The strikes come as Moscow and Kyiv continue to escalate as winter approaches, as Ukraine and its Western allies await the possibility of a repeat of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, as has happened in previous winters.
The Russian side did not immediately comment on Zelensky's remarks or on Wednesday's strikes.
